The city’s partnership with Nixle features seamless social media and worldwide Google public safety integration.
“Nixle is designed to get messages out quickly,” says Police Chief David McGill. “Visitors and residents can easily opt in and out of text messages, or set up email delivery, or simply check our web page to see the alerts.”
Nixle features:

• Free registration, online or by text message
• Individualized notification settings 
• Email messages that support photos, Google maps and other digital media
• Web access to city notifications anywhere in the world
• An anonymous crime tip function
• Social media posts
• Critical incident integration with Google search result pages
• Alerts targeted by Sedona’s zip code.

In addition to serving residents, Communication Manager Marty Macurak says Nixle’s zip code and keyword features will help the city share information easily with visitors, whether they travel here frequently or only once a year.
“We’re excited to partner with the Sedona Chamber of Commerce to promote Nixle to our tourism-based businesses and their customers,” she says. “Visitors who come for large events such as the Sedona Marathon can opt-in by keyword and know they’ll only get messages relevant to the event. It’s very convenient.”
In addition to safety alerts, the Public Works Department will use Nixle to share road construction and traffic notices. 
There are two easy ways to register for the free Nixle service: 
1. Text Sedona’s zip code – 86336 – to 888777 from your mobile phone. 
2. Visit sedonaaz.gov/alerts and hit the Sign Up button at the bottom-left of the alert display area. If you don’t want to receive text messages, submit only an email address. Your home address and phone number are not required.  
Individual alert settings can be customized by type of alert, hours of notification, and method of delivery. 
The city will send its first test alert message on Oct. 19. Visit sedonaaz.gov/alerts to see the FAQs, see alerts and sign-up for the service.

First, please see the attached file for information about our upcoming 2017 Picnic in the Park community event. This is scheduled for 5:00pm – 8:00pm, Saturday May 13th at Park Ysabel. Please plan to RSVPwithin the coming week, if possible.
Second, please save the date for our annual holiday party to be held at the new home of Janie and Dennis Tribble, Saturday December 9th, commencing at 4:00pm.
Finally, I’m looking forward to seeing those of you who will attend our upcoming Annual Membership Meeting planned for 7:00pm, April 27th at the Sedona Community Center, (Corner Melody Ln and Harmony Dr.), 2615 Melody Lane, Sedona, AZ 86339. Please note this is a change of location over recent years. Also related to the meeting, ballot mailers were recently sent out to each property owner concerning the election of SEHA Board Members for new 2 year terms. Thanks to those who promptly returned their completed ballot. Unfortunately, this ballot had incorrectly listed Craig Sigler as a candidate for "ARC Chairman". The correct title and position should read "Member at Large".  Mr. Sigler was previously appointed Member at Large by the SEHA Board to fulfill the remaining term of the vacancy created by the election of Del Weston as Board President and will expire at the upcoming board meeting.  Please contact SEHA Secretary, Joel Frey, prior to the April 27, 2017 board meeting if you have any  concerns regarding this correction or wish to revise or rescind your vote.  Regards,

Final decision released on Soldier Pass motorized use proposal
Sedona, Ariz., March 27, 2017, For Immediate Release — A final decision has been made by Coconino National Forest regarding the Soldier Pass motorized use proposal, which should reduce the volume of motorized traffic in the area and reduce the conflicts that are occurring as a result of this use.
Based on the Environmental Assessment (EA), Finding of No Significant Impact and public comments, Coconino National Forest Supervisor Laura Jo West has issued a final decision notice, which is Alternative C.
The final decision allows motorized use of Soldier Pass road by Red Rock Western Jeep Tours and up to 12 unguided public vehicles each day after a permit system has been established. The Red Rock Ranger District will convene a collaborative group on April 20 to begin developing parameters for the public permit system. This will occur within the framework of the existing Off-Highway Vehicle Working Group, which is a partnership of the City of Sedona, the Forest Service and stakeholders interested in OHV issues.
“As the popularity of motorized recreation increases, so do concerns over impacts to other recreational uses and to the quality of life in adjacent residential areas,” said West. “Moving in this direction represents a balanced approach and will reduce impacts to residential areas while still maintaining recreational opportunities for motorized travel on a four-wheel drive road.”
Red Rock Western Jeep Tours, the currently-permitted outfitter/guide company, will continue to have motorized access to the road. However, Soldier Pass road will be closed to motorized use by the public beginning this week when gate installation starts and will remain closed to public motorized use until a permit system is established. The Soldier Pass Trailhead and parking lot will be closed for up to three days during gate installation.
Hikers wanting access to the Soldier Pass area can still enter from other trailheads, such as Jim Thompson and Adobe Jack during the parking lot closure.

The project was co-funded by the City of Sedona and Coconino National Forest in response to public concerns about the effects of increasing motorized use and impacts along Soldier Pass road.
The Soldier Pass area is surrounded by private homes, located northwest of Sedona and the road totals 1.2 miles of Forest Roads 9904, 9904B and 9904C. The EA considered four alternatives in detail:

• Alternative A was the “no action” alternative, and would continue current management.
  
• Alternative B would have restricted motorized use of Soldier Pass Road to an outfitter/guide
  service and adjusted the outfitter/guide use authorization to improve consistency with other
  motorized outfitter/guide use on the District.
  
• Alternative C was the proposed action, which would have adjusted the outfitter/guide use
  authorization to improve consistency with other motorized outfitter/guide use on the District and
  established a free permit system to limit public use to 12 permits per day.
  
• Alternative D would have closed Soldier Pass Road to all recreational motorized use.
  These alternatives were developed with the help of public involvement over the last several years. The EA contains additional information about these alternatives, the project’s background, and analysis of the potential effects of implementing these alternatives.
